Where the roles come from
Every role is read from the employer's own careers system: Greenhouse, Lever, Ashby, Workable, Teamtailor, Personio, Recruitee, BambooHR, SmartRecruiters, Workday and others, the employer's careers page, or the job markup on it. We do not copy roles from other job boards. Each role links to the employer's own page to apply.
How often
Every careers page is read twice a week, on Mondays and Thursdays. A role that disappears from the employer's page is removed at the next read, and a board that cannot be read that week keeps its previous roles rather than dropping them.
Which employers and roles
Employers come from The Quantum Insider's database of 2,355 quantum companies, plus quantum teams at big tech, national labs and universities. Each employer is reviewed:
- Quantum companies whose core business is quantum technology: every role is listed, including commercial and corporate roles.
- Suppliers and adjacent companies, where quantum is one line of business: only roles whose title or team is about quantum.
- Big tech, national labs and universities: only roles about quantum, judged from the title, the team or the role description.
Job family, level and flags
- Job family and specialty. Eight families, from quantum hardware engineering to corporate functions, and specialties such as cryogenics, photonics or error correction. Assigned by rules checked against a hand-labelled set of 320 roles (93% agreement on family).
- Level. Intern or student, early career, mid-level, senior, staff or principal, manager, director, executive. Read from the title (91% agreement).
- Quantum-specific. Whether the job itself works on quantum technology, as opposed to a general role at a quantum company.
- Flags. Whether the description asks for a PhD, a security clearance or US-person status, and whether it offers or rules out visa sponsorship.
- Qubit technology. From the employer's TQI company profile.
Salary Index method
- Only salaries the employer published: structured pay ranges from the job system, or a pay range written in the description next to a word like salary or base pay. Bonuses, equity and relocation amounts are excluded.
- Hourly, daily, weekly and monthly figures are annualized (2,080 hours, 260 days, 52 weeks, 12 months). Currencies are converted at the European Central Bank reference rate of 30 Oct 2026.
- Each role counts once, at the midpoint of its range. Internships are excluded.
- Implausible figures are dropped rather than shown, for example a full-time salary that annualizes below $24,000.
- Group comparisons show a group only when it has at least 5 salaries from at least 3 employers, so no single employer sets a band.
- US figures are the most complete because of state pay-transparency laws (California, Colorado, New York, Washington and others). Elsewhere fewer employers publish pay, so treat non-US figures as indicative.
H-1B filings
US employers file a Labor Condition Application for each H-1B worker, stating the wage offered. The US Department of Labor publishes these filings. We keep certified filings from quantum companies, and quantum-titled filings from big tech and national labs, then classify each title with the same family and level rules as the roles. A filing is a wage paid to one named worker, not an advertised range, so it is a useful check on posted salaries for the same employer and role. Files used: LCA_FY2025_Q1.csv, LCA_FY2025_Q2.csv, LCA_FY2025_Q3.csv, LCA_FY2025_Q4.csv, LCA_FY2026_Q3.csv.
History and interest
Every refresh keeps a dated copy of the open roles, so changes in hiring by company, job family, country and pay can be followed over time. We also count, anonymously, which filters, searches and salary views people use: no cookies, no account and no IP address are stored, only the event and the visitor's country. Browsers that send Do Not Track or Global Privacy Control are not counted.
