About the role
{"id":1094214,"type":"requisition_detail","name":"Job Description","value":"## About OptQC\nOptQC is a deep-tech startup spun out of the University of Tokyo, founded with the mission of achieving the social implementation and commercialization of \"optical quantum computers.\"\nWhile multiple modalities exist in the quantum computing landscape, we focus on the optical quantum approach. We are confident that this method is the most suitable for practical application and widespread adoption due to its inherent scalability and seamless integration with optical communications. Through continuous research and development, we aim to balance energy efficiency with high computing power, overcome the limits of human information processing, and contribute to a sustainable society.\n\n## Background\nMany unresolved challenges remain in the research and development of photonic quantum computers. In particular, achieving error correction and non-linear operations requires a special type of quantum light known as \"non-Gaussian states.\" Our mission is to accelerate the realization of fault-tolerant photonic quantum computers by conducting fundamental research on the efficient generation, manipulation, and measurement of these non-Gaussian states. To further accelerate our R\u0026D, we are newly seeking a \"Junior Quantum Scientist\" to work alongside our senior scientists, driving the team's momentum through experimental execution and data analysis. Regardless of age, we welcome individuals with a strong curiosity for unexplored technological domains who will enjoy taking on this academic challenge together with us.\n\n## Key Responsibilities\nThis position is a crucial role where you will work alongside senior scientists to engage in cutting-edge fundamental research aimed at realizing a fault-tolerant universal photonic quantum computer.\nYou will provide hands-on support in the daily execution of experiments and data collection, as well as assist in the construction and maintenance of complex optical setups utilizing optical fibers, free-space optics, and optical waveguides.\nThe research topics are as follows:\n\n- Experimental generation of GKP states (complex non-Gaussian states)\n- Implementation of cubic phase gates\n- Realization of low-loss, high-speed optical switches\n- Theoretical and experimental research toward the realization of high-purity non-Gaussian states\n\n## The Role \u0026 Impact\nThe implementation of \"non-Gaussian quantum gates\" and \"error correction operations\"—the very foundation of photonic quantum computers—are unresolved challenges that the world has yet to overcome. In this position, armed with cutting-edge experimental facilities and technical expertise, you will be able to tackle these global challenges at the forefront. We also welcome academic outreach, including publishing papers, presenting at international conferences, and acquiring patents.","selected":true},{"id":1094215,"type":"requisition_detail","name":"Required Qualifications","value":"- Degree: Master's degree or higher in Physics, Engineering, or a related field\n- Language Skills: English proficiency at a level sufficient for smooth communication with other researchers and quantum computing experts\n- Experimental Experience: Hands-on experience in optical experiments\n- Problem-Solving Skills: Ability to independently explore solutions and iteratively solve unknown/unresolved challenges","selected":true},{"id":1094216,"type":"requisition_detail","name":"Preferred Qualifications","value":"- Conversational proficiency in Japanese.\n- Knowledge of nonlinear optics\n- Knowledge of optical frequency combs and pulsed light\n- Knowledge of quantum optics and photonic quantum information processing\n- Knowledge of superconducting devices (superconducting photodetectors)","selected":true},{"id":1094217,"type":"requisition_detail","name":"Ideal Candidate Profile","value":"- Individuals who are eager to proactively absorb cutting-edge optical quantum technologies from senior scientists and have a strong desire to grow.\n- Individuals who can carefully and persistently carry out the unglamorous, hands-on experimental processes in the lab, such as daily precise optical alignment and data collection.\n- Individuals who openly share experimental results and errors, and can collaborate with the team to solve problems.","selected":true},{"id":1094218,"type":"requisition_detail","name":"Salary","value":"JPY 10 million – 13 million (Determined based on experience and skills)","selected":true},{"id":1094219,"type":"requisition_detail","name":"Location","value":["15th Floor, IT tower TOKYO, 3-28-13 Nishi-Ikebukuro, Toshima-ku, Tokyo 171-0021, Japan"],"selected":true},{"id":1097084,"type":"requisition_detail","name":"Employment Type","value":"Full-time","selected":true},{"id":1098025,"type":"requisition_detail","name":"Hiring Process","value":"- Document Screening *Please submit a publication list\n- Interview (2–3 rounds) *Includes a research / work presentation\n- Offer Meeting\n\n[Additional Information]\n- Interviews are generally conducted online; however, candidates will be required to visit our office at least once.\n - Please consult with us if this is difficult for you.\n - Transportation expenses will be reimbursed for candidates traveling from distant locations (subject to company regulations).\n- Reference checks may be requested during the selection process.\n- The selection process and the number of interview rounds are subject to change.","selected":true}
